Inspired by - Nina Ribena's ATCs

Often times we wander around the Internet just looking.  Pinterest, Instagram, Blog Posts, Facebook and of course YouTube.  This is one of my favorite pastimes and where I get inspired by other crafty artists.  I ran across a new (well new to me) YouTube channel the other day of Nina Ribena and she had the neatest ATCs she'd made.  Well I'm not an ATC maker but I could sure see her ideas incorporated into some cards for me.  So thank you thank you Miss Nina for inspiring me!  Sometimes we just need to see it for our own crafty light bulb to go off.

I loved how Nina had covered mats with ink and then laid the Tim Holtz tissue paper over the top.  I used Distress Oxide ink on my four cards and I love them but next time I'm trying some sort of paints to get a deeper more vibrant color.  When you adhere the tissue over top of the color it becomes even more muted.  As I said I love my cards but want to try them the other way as well.

I made four cards each one varies in size since I was using scraps of Kraft paper I found in my drawer but since I made my own envelopes the size didn't matter I could make whatever size envelope I needed to house them in.  How nice four cards and four envelopes all ready to go and they all have a home waiting to be sent to.

Each of my bygone era cards has the Tim Holtz unclaimed relatives on them.  My friend Paula had gifted them to me and I have to admit I thought it creepy to add these people that I didn't know on my cards.  You know, they grow on you, now I think they are fun and the life they give to the card is just priceless.

Today I'm sharing a fun Valentine Card made with Tim Holtz Crazy Bird stamps, dies and sentiments.  These little birds just capture your heart!  I love that the Crazy Things stamps and dies have something for seasons throughout the year, like these fun Valentine embellishments.

Crazy Birds Christmas Cards

Today's post features Tim Holtz Bird Crazy collection, stamps and dies.  I love these Crazy Birds!  I'm sharing three cards, the middle one below I'll be doing start to finish on the video, I hope you'll join me.  This little guy above uses some of the Tim Holtz Crazy Things, like the glasses, Santa hat and bow.  This is such a fantastic set of stamps ready for anything from a Birthday Party to Easter, Forth of July, dress up for guys or gals, just a multitude of pieces to make your card making super fun!

I'll share how I created the rolling snowbanks and what I've used to dress them up.  Don't you just think these birds are adorable??  I don't have the dies that cut the birds out, those I did by hand, but I do have the Framelits that cut the Crazy Things like the hat above.

I used my Neocolor II crayons from Caran D'Ache to color my birds, I'm really liking them (I ordered them from Amazon).  On video I'll also share how I turned the witches boomstick into the sprigs of greenery above.

Stampers Anonymous Flower Garden Cards

Today I'm sharing a couple of Sympathy cards I made using Stampers Anonymous, Tim Holtz Collection, Flower Garden stamps.  These have lots of fall colors browns, ambers, golds and greens I love these colors and I think they make a soothing color combo for this type of card.

This first card is made using a crackle background (from JustRite Stampers) atop a piece of watercolor paper which I had colored  with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Fossilized Amber.  Today's cards are A5 size - 5"x7", a little larger than I normally make but perfect sized for the flowers with longer stems.  These stamps come with the flower heads and stems separate so you can mix and match as you see fit.  (JustRite is not available any more but I did find a Tim Holtz Stamp called Cracks and Specks that's really very very close to what I used, and you get two stamps in this set, what a deal!)

Quite some time ago I treated myself to a set of Caran D'Ache Neo Color II crayons.  These are a water soluble crayons so when used with an Aqua brush the colors blend beautifully.  It was fun, but it's always fun to try new crafty supplies.  I used a Penny Black stamp set called Eloquence for my sentiments and cut them out with Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels Thirty-Three.  

This time I included a second generation stamp on the back of my cards as well as adding the flowers to my envelopes.  These stamps come out so crisp and clear when used with Spellbinders Celebra'tions Berry Black ink, no smears, no smudges.  

Come join me on the video and we'll make a card together plus I'll show you how I did the masking on the one card.  This effect gives the illusion that the one flower is sitting behind the other, a really fun technique to use.

Stampers Anonymous Perspective Cards

I love going home to Washington State to visit my family and friends and I'll soon be on the plane winging my way there for a three week visit.  I also find it so funny because it never fails when it gets close to departure my daughters will say, Mom do you have any cards you're bringing, I'm all out.  I usually take a supply of hand made cards whenever I go and today's cards, yep they'll be going in the suitcase as well.

This weeks project seemed to grow, I decided I wanted to use all the sentiments in the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous set Perspectives but I exceeded that and had to grab a couple from his Handwritten Thoughts.  I had thought I'd use these only on my Art Journal pages but once I saw the stamps in person I knew I'd be using them for many projects, including cards.

It's going to take you no time at all to see the theme of my cards was the butterfly.  How gorgeous is this stamp?  It measures 4" square!  I used Strthmore's coldpress Watercolor paper to stamp the butterflies on.  It's very thick and textured and was so perfect.  Of course before I stamped them I colored it up with Cracked Pistachio, Tumbled Glass, Spun Sugar, Shaded Lilac and Picked Raspberry Distress Inks.  This is a newer venture for me so I'd add too many spritzes of water and then wiped too much away with my towel.  But I left it on the video so you could see how easy it was to add additional color until I got it to my liking.

 

Besides using the butterfly on all six of my cards I also used the number stamp, which is another large 4" square stamp.  I embossed each number mat with different colored embossing powders from Stampendous and Lindy's.

 

One thing I did learn was when using chunky embossing powder heat and melt it from under the paper instead of above.  Above will blow it all over the place, ask me I know!

Tudor Rose Card with Stephanotis Flowers

Today I'd like to share a card I've made using Spellbinders new Card Creator die, Tudor Rose Card Front.  I combined this die with Sizzix Susan's Garden dies, the flower Stephanotis.  Adding a lace rosette was the perfect nesting place for the three flowers.

The butterfly comes from the Sizzix BigZ die Butterfly duo.  It's duo because not only do you get the die which has two sizes of butterflies but also the matching Texture Fades Embossing folder.  I colored mine with an assortment of Tim Holtz Distress Inks including the new Cracked Pistachio.

The flowers were a little fiddly but I like the end result especially with the lace all sweetly tucked around them.
