Accordion Folded Cards

A Cut at Home Design Team Project

Using simple folds you can create a card with lots of interest for the recipient.

Take a card base with measures 5 1/2" x 12" and score it at 

1 3/8" - 2 3/4" - 5 1/4" - 7 3/4"

Crease your score lines creating mountain and valley folds.

By cutting a focal point from your decorative paper you can create a lot of interest on that first fold. For the Reindeer card I fussy cut the deer from the Bo Bunny Silver and Gold collection papers.  I lined his little hinny up with the left edge of the card base, and extended him on the right.  

For the second card I used the Tim Holtz Tattered Poinsettia Bigz die.  I cut it from Kraft paper, inked the edges, glued it together and then ran it through my Cuttlebug using the Textile Embossing folder. What a time saver, all the pieces are embossed in one fast swoop through the embosser!  

Add a few Diamond Stickles to portions of the designer paper to create a lovely front focal feature. Increase the impact by using some glitter, I used Martha Stewart's red tinsel glitter and suddenly the deer begins to take on a life of his own.  I used an old Martha Stewart pine bough punch to punch out green boughs to give dimension to the wreath around his neck and added a glittered snowflake to the middle.  A little pearl eye finishes out his dressings. 

With the Poinsettia Card I matted the card base with designer paper from Heartfelt Creations Frosty Blanket collection and a sentiment from their Christmas Sentiment Circles set.   By cutting a couple of mats from Spellbinders Fascination and Heart Circles I got the perfect backdrop for my embossed sentiment.

Another great feature of this card,

it fits perfectly in a regular sized envelope!

Easel Fold Card

I saw a Challenge today at Digtial Tuesday Challenge that was to make a card with a fold in it. I keep seeing these Easel fold cards but had yet to make one. How fun is this? I love how it turned out. If I had been thinking it through a little more I would have dropped my 'so happy for you' stamp down to the lower part so you could see it as it sat as an easel, but no matter, it's ok for my first try.

The top stamp is Hero Arts the bottom is Inkadinkado. The bird frame is an SVG file from Doodle Licious. The side punch is EK Success.

Papers are from a set gotten from Costco, I sure wish I knew who's they are because they are wonderful double sided paper and of course not available there anymore.

Explosion Fold Valentine

I got a new book, Novelty Cards by Sue Nicholson, and in it was this folded Explosion Card. Using an 8x8 piece of paper you simply fold it and attach to the inside of the card. As the card is opened the folds 'explode' into the message.

The eyes have had glitter added to them to give them a little extra sparkle. I printed the heart, attached it to heavy paper and then attached it to a piece of mid weight cardboard and cut it out. If I had thought I should have inked the edges before adhering it to the card, but it was too late and too hard to do once it was attached (I used 2 pop up dots to attach and raise it off the card)

The Happy Face heart is from a kit Spellweaver made called Sweet Amore, the inside is actually a quickpage she had made in a kit called Be Mine. Spellweaver isn't selling her kits anymore so I'm afraid these things aren't available to you. The inside was actually bright red but I changed the hue/saturation to the blues.

As it opens the inside, folded paper begins to open or explode

The more it opens the more the inner is revealed

Until you've got the whole thing open. I added the candy heart rubons and a brad and ribbon for a little extra.

Tri-Fold Birthday Card

Here's a card I made for my daughter, I had seen the tri-folded card and really like the way they'd done it. The rest is true experimentation. The photo is one I took of some flower pods the other day, I used several blends in Photo Shop and changed the Hue/Saturation to come up with this great shade of Lavender.
