7 Gypsies Journal - Mini

a Canvas Corp Crew project

Many of you are still just getting familiar with Canvas Corp Brands.  They have 3 separate stores, Canvas Home Basics, 7 Gypsies and Tattered Angels.  All three companies intermingle and play extremely well together.  A few months back I took one of the Canvas Home Basics journal, altereing it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and 7 Gypsies Architextures Parchment Rub Ons.  Then it went back in my crafty space, patiently waiting for me to say, ok let's finish you up.

I ran across it a couple of weeks ago and thought, oh I want to play again.  So using the 7 Gypsies 8x8" paper pad, Wanderlust, I created this canvas bound mini - journal.  I'm so happy with how it turned out.  It's being featured on the Canvas Corp blog so I hope you'll check out the full story here.

The journal innards are constructed with the bulk Kraft cardstock available in the store (all links to supplies will be at the bottom of this post.  I used 4 sheets, cutting them to fit the 5"x7" outer cover and stitching them though the middle.  You can see how chunky they got and how the outer edges of the journal expanded.  Typical for things I create, I always want to add just one more thing.

To keep the mini securely closed I made a belly band that closes with velcro strips, that way it can expand as the mini expands.  I adorned it with flowers cut from the collection (I used Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die for the flowers, one of my favs).

I hope you'll check out the video, it will share how and why I did what in the construction and then offer you many more still photos to inspire you to create your own canvas bound mini-journal  Don't forget when shopping in the store, if you live in the USA and place a $5 order your items are shipped for free.  WOW unheard of in this day and age.  Be sure to have a cuppa of something near by, once you start browsing the store it's really hard to leave, there are so many fantastic items just waiting for your crafty hands to get ahold of them!

Garden Delights

a Canvas Corp Crew project

This post will be featured in it's entirety on the Canvas Corps Brands Blog, I hope you'll check the whole article out there.  I'll be just previewing a snippet of it here.

It's always fun when you can have a never ending supply of product to work with.  That's what my cards today are comprised of, a never ending supply of leaves from my yard, my sisters yard, the neighborhood, anywhere that has an interesting leaf to incorporate into my card designs.

On the video below I'll share the whole process of gathering the leaves, pressing the designs into the cardstock, what worked and what didn't, if you haven't checked it out yet I hope you'll do so today. Don't forget to stop by the Canvas Corp Brands blog for a complete pictorial step through of how to do it yourself.

I also wanted to give a disclaimer, this isn't my idea, I wish it had been, but it's been floating around the Pinterest Boards, Blogs and YouTube for quite some time, I just gleaned my information from Understanding Blue, she had a great video that really got me inspired to try it for myself.

Can't Turn Back the Clock

My other half's birthday is Monday and I wanted a special card for him.
I took inspiration from Smitha Katti's card in the May/June 2012 Paper Crafts Magazine.
(Check out her site, Smiling Colors.)
I just loved her card (Love You Dad Card, page 80),
it had a Graphic 45 piece of paper on it with men's shoes from The Gentlemen collection.
So cool!  But I hunted and didn't have that paper but did have this one, also Graphic 45,
that had the shirt, tie, cuffs and collar (from the Romantique collection).
Since my guy wore a suit and tie daily to work his whole career I thought this was a perfect fit!
The top strip, and the envelope in the first picture, are from a paper stack
that I got years ago at Costco.  If anyone knows who made this paper would
you leave a comment?  I just love it!
I added a brad and a strip of 7 Gypsies clock face paper
from the 6x6 Paddington stack
(which I just saw at Tuesday Morning for $1.99 for the pad can you believe that!!!)
I found the inside sentiment online and printed it out on my computer.
Inked the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink
I finished the card with 3 small buttons
and a Happy Birthday (Hero Arts) stamp done with
Perfect Pearls in Bronze

Mini Album Gift

I was in such a hurry to get this packaged and ready for Monday's post I forgot to take photos. But, I figured out how to use the frames from the video and they are below.

The book was made with the Black Currant paper stack from DCWV
Front cover has a spray from Webster's Pages,
 charms from Recollections,
a Stick Pin and label made from my computer and covered with Crystal Lacquer
The original 7Gypsies book that I used for the base
came with a spiral binding, which of course was way too small.
I removed it and added ribbons, tied in bows and double knotted.
I ran a thread of Glossy Accents across the end of each ribbon
to keep them from fraying
This little book pulls out and opens to form a 12 spots for 3x3 photos.
as shown below

The left page is an acetate mat with the photo mat slipped behind
The right side is a three page fold out when untied
shown below

Under the belly band is an accordian fold out of mats
Another 3 page mat when untied on the left
and a removable accordion of page mats on the right
Frames are cut with a Spellbinders die
the mat pulls out from the top to allow a photo to be added
An envelope to hold my personal note to the graduate on the left.
