A Big Circle

Viewer's Project

The online crafting world is like a big circle.  Someone shares an idea or a tutorial, you make a project, someone see it and gets inspired and makes their own.  Crafters helping crafters, I think that's why I am so taken with all the talented, inspirational people I've met online.

A while back my friend Clare, My Creative Spirit shared her tutorial Love & Laugh with me.  In turn I did my first Mother Goose Mini with it sharing via YouTube and my blog post.

The response was great and I told everyone that said they thought they might try it the same thing, send me some photos when you're done so I can share.  A few weeks back Joan Leeder did just that.  She had purchased Clare's tutorial and then referred to my Mother Goose mini to make one of her own.  Now that's a complete circle of crafters inspiring crafters.  I love it, it makes my heart sing!

Take a look at the wonderful Mother Goose Album Joan made

So here's my sage words to all of you -

To those of you that create - keep on sharing the inspiration

To those of you that teach - keep sharing the knowledge

To those of that are learning - never say 'I can't do that' sure you can

And to everyone - Have Fun!  There is no WRONG way!  Develop your own style!

and most importantly, when someone needs help, Pass it On!

Hugs everyone have fun crafting!

Mother Goose Series - Not a Scrap Left - Picture Frame

Mother Goose Series - Not a Scrap Left - Project 4
A Cut at Home Design Team Project

Well I'm back with another Mother Goose project, this time I stepped a tad outside my box to use some new mediums I hadn't played with before.  I had bought this frame, which started out as a unfinished wooden frame, pretty plain and dull and altered it into a cute little Mother Goose accessory to a child's room.

I loved this paper (and it's one of the few full sheets I have left) and thought yellow would be a great color to do all the edges that show.  I found some Lemon and Butter Cream Faber-Castell Gelatos and wondered if they'd do the trick.

I covered all the areas I wanted yellow with Liquitex white Gesso, allowed it to dry and then began coloring with the Gelatos.  Fun fun fun!  I had water near by and dipped my fingertips in it to ease moving the Gelatos around on the wood.  I'm amazed at how it colored and how fast it dried.  I think I'm hooked, gotta play some more with these!

Once everything was dry I used the Twinkle Twinkle paper to cover the front and solid black cardstock to cover the back applying a heavy layer of Aleene's Collage Podge over the top (I used this to glue the paper to the frame as well.)  I fussy cut Mother Goose from the paper, added Collage Podge front and back used Glossy Accents and red Stickles to give her glitz and glam and then used Beacon's Fabri Tac to glue her securely to the frame.  The final touch was the handle to her basket which came from a paper bag I'd gotten at the fruit stand.  Perfect!

To finish the frame I used a combination of cotton flowers I'd cut from Tim Holtz Alterations Tattered Floral die.  Along with those I tucked in bit and pieces of Petaloo flowers, that's those wonderfully lacy pieces you see.  A few Kaisercraft Sparklets and it's beginning to take shape.  I fussy cut the little Humpty Dumpty, backed him with cardstock, applied a layer of Collage Podge, stuck him to a Tim Holtz memo pin and tucked him in among the flowers.  Finished!

So what do you think?  Do you like how my frame turned out?  If you'd like to see a step by step from unfinished frame to sticking Humpty in the flowers check out my video below.  If you're not a blog follower yet I hope you become one today, and if you have a minute leave me a comment and tell me how you're liking my Mother Goose series.

Mother Goose Series - Mini 3

Mother Goose Series - Project 3 Not a Scrap Left

I'm calling this 3rd mini in the series, Triple Flip, because there are '3' sections each with '3' sections which flip out when opened.  I designed this mini with the Cut-apart page that's in most Graphic  45 paper collection.   On these pages you get six cut aparts each 4" x 6" and I wanted some way to utilitze those images in a book and create an area for 4" x 6" photos.

On each of the 3 sections there is a section for an image mat like the one above.  If you're like me you find it hard to cut into these and ruin the image.  My pocket is actually cut into the image allowing for a mat to slip behind the image into cut area.  I love using this technique.

The middle section houses a plain mat which is large enough for a 4" x 6" photo.  On this particular one I added a pocket as well so you not only can mat a photo to the background but also stick extra photos in the pocket. (in this mini I've used two Spellbinders Embossing folders on each of the large, solid colored mats, to give them a little zing, the Quiltworks and Awesome Blossoms).

In the photo above you can see how each section unfolds, with the image pocket on the left, the plain photo mat in the middle and a journaling card on the right.

The reverse side houses the image pocket, the journaling mat and a pocket to tuck in photos or memorabilia.

This was a great way to use just 2 of the papers from the collection along with the solid primary colored cardstock.  I hope you'll join me on the video as I walk you through each page.  And keep a watch out for a tutorial coming to show you the construction of the book.  Now remember I'm using up what I have in the Mother Goose line so I don't have duplicates of these pages to recreate another book for you exactly like this one.  Better still I'm doing a follow up video to the tutorial which will show you how to use the Cut-aparts from Graphic 45's Botanical Tea Collection to recreate the style of this book.  In my mind this is even better because you'll end up with two examples to spur your own creative side into making one of your own with your favorite Graphic 45 collection or any other that you have that you're wanting to cut in to.

Mother Goose, Not a Scrap Left! Series

Hi everyone, I am so excited about this series I'm going to be sharing with all of you.  I had purchased Graphic 45's Mother Goose Collection.  (Check out my video below to see what I started with.) As I made the first, then second mini I thought, hmmm I wonder how many projects I could really end up from one paper collection.  So as I finish up each project (I am working on mini #3!) I'll do a video and post it her to help inspire you to use it all up.

My first mini was fashioned after Clare's (My Creative Spirit on YouTube).  Clare has been a good friend and a supporter to my craftiness since we were first posting on YouTube.  She passed along her latest tutorial for her Love & Laugh mini for me to give a go.  I love her thinking process and since I'd just purchased the Mother Goose and was dying to play with it it was a perfect match.

Here's a few glimpses of what I made
OK here's what I did, I took some fabric quilting fat quarters I had purchased eons ago for another project, they were primary colored so I cut them using Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die and made these flowers for the front of my book.  Perfect colors to compliment the colors of the papers.  I hung a stork charm from the green one and stuck a moon and star in the other two large flowers.  Mother Goose was fussy cut from the paper and attached to chipboard to pop her up.  The outside spine and back were covered with the outer wrapper of the paper collection.  This is a sturdier cardboard but glossy.  I didn't want the glossy look on the outside so an easy fix is to use a coat or two of Aleene's Collage Podge over top.  This will also provide another layer of protection from all those hands that are going to be looking it over.

There are 8 pages in this book four of which are smaller foldouts, you'll see as you watch the video.  I tried to follow Clare's tutorial but you know how it is, you always want to try it this way or that, so there are a few change-ups in mine but basically the style is hers.  So so fun and amazing how doing the same style can look so totally different with different papers and different hands creating.

Here's the first page, you can see how I added a pocket on the inside front cover on the left
and the first full size page (with a flip up) on the right.

Here's the second page (I call it a pocket page) on the right,
Here's how the smaller pocket pages work.

Here's the pocket, closed.  The round Humpty on the left has a magnet underneath to keep the flaps together.  He's been fussy cut and Glossy Accented and mounted on a die cut from the Sizzix Framelets I Love You die set.  I used some Martha Stewart glitter glue on the pointy edges.

Here you can see how it pops open (the 5 cent covers the inside magnet)

Here are the flaps opened.  On the right you have a pocket with a lollypop stick inside, big enough for some journaling words.  The center pocket has two mats that I've stamped with Stamp set 3 from the collection and the left, even though a little isn't showing, is another pocket with room for full size mats.

Each of the four sections consist of the same format, a large page, and a small pocket page.  Here's the back of the first pocket on the left and the second full page on the right.   This flips open to reveal other hidden pockets and mats behind the boy in the bed.

There's a tremendous amount to the book, too much to be able to share properly here.  Check out the video below, I'll walk you through each page and give you ideas as to what and how I did it.  I hope you'll check out Clare's tutorials (the one I used is listed in the supply list below with a link directly to it) and her YouTube channel, My Creative Spirit.

Thanks for joining me, I hope you follow my blog and leave me a comment telling me how you like this idea for a series.
