Prima Firefly Collection Mini Album

In January I purchased a kit from Swirlydoos Kit Club called Whimsy.  It's been in my crafty closet since then but the colors and papers, from the Prima Firefly Collection, kept calling to me.  I followed the purchased tutorial from Katy Orta featuring her Build a Page, hidden hinge, style of mini.  Kathy gives ideas and instructions for six different pages styles, I tried one of each in this book just to get a feel for how she does things and which ones I'd like to carry forward into new books.

Never throw out anything, lol.

Years ago, Starbucks had nice gifty items and I had purchased these paper clip butterflies,

I gave a few away as gifts and

chased the others around and around for years 

and look where this one found a home!

Combinations pulled from the Swirlydoos kit and my stash lent itself to a bright

sunny book which will make a nice gift at some point 

My favorite page, I loved this Prima flower and the lace from Webster's Pages.

together with the black accents on the page I think it's truly eye catching

This was the first time I'd used the round pull tabs for the mats

and it's fun to see all these bright little bits peaking out

from  the top and side

I found this lace for the spine at JoAnn fabrics and secured it to the book with

Beacon's Fabri-Tac which has become a staple in my crafty space

it holds like iron

Together with the flowers and little bits and bobs I'm happy with the way the outside

of the book came out, sometimes a hard part for me to be satisfied with

Creating a Travel Mini

Recently we traveled to Grandby Colorado, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, to meet my Sister in Law and Brother as they made a road trip from Washington State to Tennessee up to Michigan, over to Glacier National Park and back home.  

When we stopped at Grand Junction the first night I found a Hobby Lobby, the first one I've ever visited. Browsing around I ran across The Paper Studios paper stack, The Great Rock Island Route.  I loved it!  It has a real deep rich color on the papers and they have almost a linen feel to them.  The next night I was showing them to my sister in law and she liked them as well as I did.  That's when the idea of a mini for her, with pictures of our time together and their trip began to form.

This mini is made using Kathy Orta's 

Build a Page system

Die cuts from Simple Stories Destinations collection

and some cut from my Cricut finish out the

front cover.

 

My sister in law surprised me with a bag of antique crocheted pieces that had been my Mom's.

I'm sure they were made by my Grandmothers and Aunts years ago.

Her only request, to make her something with a piece on it.

I used a pineapple as the closure 

attaching it securely (with Fabri-Tac by Beacon) to the 

back and looping it around a Tim Holtz knob on the front.

Many flips, flaps and fold outs

To trace the path of their road trip I plotted it out on

Google Maps, copied it to Photo Shop

and sliced it into 4 to fit the 4 fold out sections shown above.

Then I took Google Images of Road Signs 

to each state and printed and cut them into Inchies to

put along the map route (which is highlighted

with Glossy Accents)

I did a lot of fun cutting and printing of photos,

like this one of Betty where I printed her shooting

a photo with her camera and then cut her out,

inked the edges and used her like you would

an embellishment on the page.

This flip out houses a map we got from the Ranger

of the trip we took to Alpine Ridge.

It flips up and then out.  The inside top and bottom

house the map, the outside of the top houses a photo

I took along the way.  Great memories.

On the very last page I included this little Matchbook

Mini, inside are several papers I distressed, sprayed with 

water, crinkled, dried and ironed.  Love the effect!

BoBunny Trail Mix Prize from Swirlydoos

I got my Prize!!!  Thank you Swirlydoos!  I couldn't wait to make something and since my brother's birthday is just around the corner I thought I'd make a card for him.  These papers are perfect for any masculine project.  The colors are rich and vibrant and there are so many ways you can use them.

On a personal note:   We spent a fabulous week in Grandby, Grand Junction and Steamboat Springs Colorado.  What a gorgeous state this is.  So clean and beautiful.  Yep you guessed it, I'm missing my Pacific Northwest after seeing all that water, green and snow.  I'll be posting photos of our trip on my Reflections of My Year blog if you're interested in looking.  I may even do a photo video and post to YouTube this week.

I'll be back with more projects within the next couple of weeks, wow I have so many ideas swirly around and one almost completed.  I'll also be doing a mini for my Sister in Law and Brother (we met them in Grandby Colorado as they made their first leg of a trip from Washington State to Colorado, Tennessee up to Michigan over to Glacier National Park and back home again.  I can't wait to get all her pictures to start on this.

It's All in the Attitude!

It all started with an email!  A 50% site wide sale at Janlynn for 24 hours only.
I had to go look right???  Of course I did.
I had been drooling over these dolly mama stamps for eons
but was too cheap to pay full price.
When I went to look many of them had been marked to $3.00 then 50% off that!@#@!
Needless to say, I bought them all!

Congrats!

I was looking for an image to make a card
for my Grandson who is graduating from 5th grade this week.
I found this Alien on coloring,com
isn't he something?

I printed him a couple of times so I could have
one inside and one out.
Added some Glossy Accents and a little Stickles
and then popped him up on some dimensionals.

 

 

Used a few stickers for the Congrats,
printed a sentiment on my computer
using a font called
Aliens ate my Mum!
Stuck in some money and he's good to go!
